As some of you know I picked up a 91 Stealth a little over a month ago. The car was in great shape and only had some minor issues "Clutch, Idle, Interior, Etc..." I replaced the clutch with an XTD stage 2 clutch.  Fixed about 80% of the interior problems "Mostly Dirty" and as of today I have finally fixed the idle and hesitation issue! The Idle hesitation issue was a combination of issues and took me over two weeks to figure things out.

One of the problems was that the car idled real high 2500-3000 warm. When you where driving the car it hesitated real bad when you hit the gas.  Almost like it was misfiring, had to ease on the gas. When you where crusing and put it into neutral the cars rpm's would jump back and forth between 2500-3000. Back and forth until you came to a stop then it would just idle real high.

Well the high idle issue was caused by me looping the FIAV coolant hoses. This caused the valve to stay open and the rpm's to stay high. My Fault!!!  The hesitation issue was due to the crappy E3 spark plugs the previous owner installed. Things were factory gapped to like 0.8.  Replaced them with Champion Coppers.

Now the fun part was the idle jumping when in neutral!  I did some research on ***.org and found that the ECS computer actually alters the TPS signal to the ECU. My sport light had been flashing but I just figured it was a strut tower plug as that is what usually causes it. Needless to say when I unplugged the ECS module the car stopped the jumping idle... YEAH!

Ooohhh.. And before I forget. when I got the car inspected, it failed due to rack and pinion leaking!  Luckily the mechanic told me to just drain it halfway and add Lucus Power Steering Stop Leak.  Shit worked great and the next day the car passed inspection.  I had to drive it from Clayton to Smithfield "15 Miles"  with no plates on the car as that was the closest DMV for me to get plates.

So if you happen to spot a Clean Red 91 Stealth R/T driving around the Raleigh/Durham area you will know it's me.  Man it feels good to be back in a Stealth!!!! Smiley

Have you gotten the hood yet for the car?

Any weekend works for me really. I got family flying up from Florida sometime in April but no date set yet. Should only take 4-5 hours max.
